Steve and I started first grade with Mrs. Ferguson at Oak Summit Elementary, and were together in school through the NFSH Class of 1972. He was always a good and kind guy, someone I was actually thinking about recently because of a sweet exchange I had with him at our last class reunion. May he rest in peace, may all who love him find that peace as well.

I would see Steve out periodically over the years with the most recent being about three months ago when I had recently moved back to Walkertown and he was my mail carrier.  We chatted a bit and he said he was thinking about retiring so when I hadn't seen him for a while, I assumed he had decided to retire.  I had always liked Steve as he always had a bright smile for everyone.  My fondest memory of him was just a few years out of high school, my then-husband and I decided to try backpacking and Steve took us out for that first trip, along with his three large dogs.  He carried a huge bag of dog food in his pack.  After a couple of hours in light rain, we determined that we had somehow gotten off path.  So, we spent the night and when we started out the next day, we found we were only about 1/4 mile away from the parking lot!!!  We had a good laugh about that.  He will be missed.
