In Memory

Joan Montgomery (Hazlett)

Joan was born in Stuart, Virginia, to Jim and Tiney Montgomery. Joan had one older brother, Michael, who she adored, and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Joan lived most of her early life in the suburbs of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, specifically Germantown. A member of the Class of ’72 at North Forsyth Senior High School, Joan meandered southward to South Carolina, first to Columbia and finally Charleston, where she lived for the past 30+ years. In 2004 Joan married the love of her life, Peter Clark Hazlett.

Joan had a very kind and gentle heart, and especially interested in rescue dogs, of which she had three; Joan was surrounded by her loyal companions when found.

Joan worked as a travel agent, in the food and beverage industry, and over the past ten years as a mail carrier for the US Post Office.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jim and Tiney, her older brother Michael, and her adoring husband, Pete, who passed in February, 2018.

Fly high now our sister, you have earned your wings! May the angels nestle you in their downy soft feathers, we will see you one day, we love and miss you!

From 1st thru 12th, we were able to be in classes together.  Chapel programs, getting in trouble for talking, it was just part of our growing up.  Her sharp wit made her such a joy and I am so fortunate to call her friend.  God's speed Joanie!  I love you.  K

To this day I still miss Joan tremendously.  She was a dear friend and we had the best times with sleep overs, parties, and just good ole fun.  I drive by her home in Germanton periodically and the memories sweep over me like waves.  She was beautiful inside and out.  I'm so thankful we connected again over the last year or so before she passed away.  Love you Joan.
